Self-statement

Prof. Liang Li graduated from the Electrical Engineering College of the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in 1985. He did his postgraduate study and got his master degrees on fusion engineering at the Plasma Physics Institute, Chinese Academy of Science in 1988, and then he joined a Tokamak designing team for the Toroidal coil system development. From 1991 to 1997 he studied at the Katholieke University Leuven (KU Leuven) Belgium and received his degrees of Master and Ph.D in 1992 and 1997 respectively. During his Ph.D studies, he developed high performance pulsed magnets for the high magnetic field laboratories of the National laboratories and universities of Belgium, US, UK, Germany, Netherland, Japan and Australia, from 1997 to 2000, he was hired as an associate researcher at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL) leading the pulsed magnet development for the Los Alamos National laboratory. In October 2000, He joined the superconducting and electromagnetics lab of the Global Research Center of GE company at Niskayuna, New York, working as a Senior Electrical Engineer, where he was in charge of the post magnetization for the permanent magnet MRI and the wind generator systems, and he developed high temperature superconducting coils and their quench detection and protection systems for generators. In 2007, Prof. Li became the general manager and the chief engineer of the National Major Science and Technology Infrastructure Project, the Pulsed High Magnetic Field Facility project at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). After the project was successfully completed in 2013, Prof. Li was appointed as the director of the Wuhan National High Magnetic Field Center. Prof. Li is the chief scientist of a “973 project”, distinguished professor of Changjiang Scholar Program, and the winner of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. His research interests cover the development of high field pulsed magnets, superconducting magnets, fusion magnets and their applications in large scale generators, post magnetization, electromagnetic forming, surface work hardening and magnetic cooling.
