报告摘要:

Ultrasonic measurements provide us with a powerful tool for the investigation of solid state physics. In ultrasonic measurements, sound waves incident into a crystal induce a lattice strain field, and this strain field couples with various order parameters involving electrons. Because the elastic strains are the same symmetry as thequadrupoles, the elastic constants give the information about the quadrupole susceptibilities. By adopting various frequencies, dynamic properties of the system, such as fluctuations and relaxation, can be elucidated. In this talk, I will introduce the ultrasonic measurements and the apparatus, at first. Then, I will show some examples of measurements. In recent years, I have investigated UCoAl, which is an itinerant magnet and located near the critical endpoint. I would like to show peculiar elastic properties and dynamic properties of UCoAl, and other related Uranium compounds.

Masahito Yoshizawa was born in 1952 in Niigata Prefecture in Japan. After getting Doctor of Science from Tohoku University in Sendai, he spent 5 years in Europe. He stayed in Institute of Physics at Frankfurt University in Germany from 1984 to 1986 as an Alexander-von-Humboldt research fellow, and in High Field Laboratory at Max-Plank Institute in Grenoble, France, from 1984 to 1989. He was Professor at Iwate University in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture, Japan, from 1989. He retired from the University in 2018. He is Professor Emeritus and a guest Professor. He is now working as a physicist and a Science & Technology Consultant. He has developed ultrasonic measurement apparatus with Quantum Design Japan and venture companies in Morioka.
